GEAR DOES NOT MAKE YOU A GOOD PHOTOGRAPHER !!!

Well… Let’s talk about that. Let me preface this blog by saying that I understand where this stance comes from. I understand the motive behind the saying and I also understand the benefits to saying this to a young, upcoming photographer.

The Truth: Gear makes you a BETTER photographer.

Throwing it all the way back to 2014, I had a d5000 and an 18-200mm f5.6. I was shooting some portraits of my family at the time and I was so bothered that I was not able to create that dreamy, bokeh filled background. I wanted these photos to look amazing with all of the time that I was putting into it. You can see where this is going; I was not able to blow out the background how I wanted to due to gear limitations. My lens could only shoot at f5.6 and that stopped me from achieving the photo that I wanted.
